After having received his degree in mathematics from University of Technology Darmstadt in 2006, Alexander worked as an external consultant in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) projects for an international financial institution. He was one of the core developers of the open source PKI project OpenXPKI.
Alexander has done security research on both open source and commercial applications and released security advisories on vulnerabilities in Firefox, Opera, Outlook and Office 2007, Adobe Reader as well as in some servers and services, oftentimes related to the handling of X.509 certificates.
He presented on his work and research at the Chaos Communication Congress, EuSecWest and several other security conferences.
Alexander joined the security test lab in July 2009.
